Yoga

Take a breath . . . inhale . . . be present . . . and exhale . . .
Yoga, meaning “to join” or “to unite”, is known to be the oldest physical discipline in existence dating back almost 5,000 years.
Yoga unites the practice of mastering postures (asanas), controlled breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation (dhyana), creating an ultimate harmony between the body, breath and mind. With a dedicated practice, physical benefits include toning and strengthening the entire musculoskeletal system working not only the “core”, but the density of the bones, mobility of the joints, elasticity of the connective tissues and stimulation of the internal organs and nervous system. We offer different styles of this practice including Gentle Yoga, Yin Yoga and Flow (vinyasa) Yoga.

TRX

TRX Suspension Training is a type of total-body resistance training that uses your own body weight and gravity, to build strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, core and joint stability, all while preventing injuries. Every exercise you have to engage your core. Now you may think that your core is just your abdominals, however it is more than that! Your core includes the pelvis, abs, back and chest muscles. It is this core that offers your body stability, balance and flexibility. Everything you do in your life starts with your core, whether it is bending over to pick up the pen you dropped on the floor, washing your car, playing basketball with your kids, or participating in an Ironman. A strong and stable core is important to help prevent injuries, not just in your low back but in your entire body. Just think of how developing good core strength and stability will only enhance your performance and way of life!

Pilates Suspension Method

The Pilates Suspension Method (PSM) was created by Rebecca Beckler of Pilates949 (pilates949.com). It combines traditional and contemporary mat Pilates and equipment-based Pilates exercises and performs them on the suspension trainer. Each PSM exercise is Pilates-rooted and is also done in many of the traditional Pilates series. The PSM is designed to teach in a group or one-on-one setting. We currently offer weekly group sessions (4 people max) and private sessions. Our current certified instructors available to teach are Shelia Donovan (advanced PSM instructor and instructor trainer) and Caitlin Towle. Shelia Donovan Pilates Studio is a certified PSM training facility where Shelia is now teaching workshops for those interested in receiving certification as a teacher or deepening their practice.
